Single Wills

Emeritus Legal advise on wills for single people

The single adult may be a bachelor, a spinster, a widow, a widower or one half of an unmarried or gay couple who have not formed a civil partnership.

Each of these situations is different. Many clients in these circumstances leave their assets and property to another adult. It is vitally important in these circumstances that you consider making provision for a substitute beneficiary in case the primary beneficiary dies before you. If you have not provided for a substitute beneficiary then the assets will be distributed in accordance with the intestacy rules which may not be what you want.

The Intestacy Rules:

A person who passes away without a will is described as dying intestate. It is the Intestacy Rules (set out in the Administration of Estates Act 1925 and amended by the Inheritance and Trustees Powers Act 2014 (ITPA 2014) that determine who gets what if you die without making a will.

I was very pleased with the response from both Alun and Rhys. I needed advice regarding a will quite quickly and was initially responded to at the weekend by phone and then was able to make an appointment to see Alun a few days later.

    Mrs R. Cardiff

You gave me peace of mind when having to deal with my affairs. You were very patient with me and took me through what was required when my husband passed away.

    Mrs J. Cardiff

When my husband died I could not face dealing with the administration of the estate and the bereavement itself. I found Mr Thomas most caring and helpful. Thank you very much.

    Ms J. Cardiff

Having recently had the need to discuss my affairs with Mr Thomas, solicitor, I recommend this gentleman for his professionalism, integrity –care and understanding of the needs of his clients, and his truthful advice.
